I am
Amaryllis
My name is a Greek origin name and means Fresh, sparkling and shining. It comes from the ancient greek verb «αμαρύσσω» (amariso) which means shine. Amaryllis was also a virgin nymph, timid and shy who fell deeply in love with Altaion, a shepherd as handsome as Apollo and as strong as Heracles, but who did not respond to her love. Following the advice of the oracle wearing a pure white dress for thirty consecutive nights she passed in front of Altaion’s door and pierced her heart with a golden arrow, spilling her blood on the ground. When the shepherd finally opened the door he saw a flower with deep purple petals, which had been dyed with the blood of Amaryllis’ heart. With this sacrifice Amaryllis won Altaion’s love and they lived happily ever after.
